What it's like working as a Domiciliary Care Assistant

Providing community based care to our Customers within their own homes

A Day in the Life of a Care Assistant-

As a Care Assistant at Bluebird Care, my day starts early, usually around 7 AM, and can finish as late as 10 PM. During this time, I support multiple customers, helping them live independently in their own homes.

My work involves a variety of tasks. I assist with personal care, like helping customers get ready for the day, preparing meals, and providing light housekeeping to keep their homes comfortable and safe. Throughout the day, I also offer companionship, whether it's chatting over a cup of tea, going for a walk, or assisting with hobbies and activities that keep customers engaged.

One of the most rewarding parts of the job is building real relationships with the people I care for. It’s not just about practical help—it’s about being there for them, providing support and reassurance, and helping them stay active and involved in their community.

By the time my shift ends in the evening, I feel a deep sense of fulfilment, knowing I’ve made a positive difference in someone’s day. Being a Care Assistant at Bluebird Care means delivering compassionate care and helping others live their lives with dignity and independence.

I do a mixture of shifts, sometimes starting at 7 am, sometimes finishing at 10 pm and sometimes doing double shifts, every day is different, although I do predominantly lone work, I am never truly alone as I have the support of my colleagues both in the field and in the office always at the end of the phone.
